Privacy Policy

QUALIA is built on a local-first privacy architecture. Your mental health data never leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to share it.
1. Who We Are
QUALIA is developed and published by Archetype Origin Dynamics Inc. ("Company," "we," "us"). QUALIA is a clinical-grade self-guided mental health application designed to support emotional regulation, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), somatic processing, and nervous system recovery.
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the QUALIA mobile application ("App").
2. Local-First Architecture
QUALIA operates on a zero-knowledge, local-first data architecture. This means:
All clinical data — mood logs, journal entries, CBT reframes, worry vault deposits, behavioral activation tasks, and somatic session history — is stored exclusively on your device using encrypted local storage.
No clinical data is transmitted to our servers, any third-party server, or any cloud infrastructure at any time.
We do not have access to your clinical data. We cannot read, analyze, sell, or share it.
The Therapist Export feature generates a PDF compiled entirely on-device. The file is shared only via your device's native share sheet. We never receive a copy.
3. Data We Collect
We categorize data into two tiers:
3a. Clinical Data (Device-Only)
This data never leaves your device:
Mood check-in history (mood index, label, emoji, timestamp)
Shadow Journal entries (free-text content, word count, creation date)
Thought Catcher sessions (user input, detected cognitive distortions, AI-generated reframes)
Worry Vault deposits (worry text, lock/process timestamps)
Behavioral Activation completions (task ID, XP earned, timestamp)
Settings preferences (biometric lock, emergency contacts, trigger avoidances, notification preferences, appearance mode)
Somatic Sandbox session engagement (EMDR, vagal toning, bilateral tapping, haptic grounding, sensory exit)
3b. Non-Clinical Data (Minimal)
We may collect the following non-clinical data to operate the service:
Device type, OS version, and app version (for crash diagnostics)
Anonymous usage analytics (screens viewed, session duration) — no personally identifiable information (PII) is included
Purchase/subscription status (managed by Apple App Store or Google Play Store — we do not process payment details directly)
4. Emergency Contacts
If you choose to add Emergency Contacts, this information (name, phone number, relationship) is stored exclusively on your device. We never transmit, store, or access this information on any server. The SOS functionality uses your device's native dialer — no data passes through our systems.
5. Trigger Preferences & Trauma Avoidances
QUALIA allows you to flag clinical triggers (e.g., medical trauma, grief, violence, confinement, substance abuse). These flags are stored locally and used solely to personalize your in-app experience. They are never transmitted externally.
6. Data Security
All local data is stored using encrypted local storage with device-level encryption and hardware-backed key management (iOS Keychain / Android Keystore).
Optional biometric authentication (Face ID / Touch ID) adds an additional security layer.
PDF exports are compiled on-device and are never uploaded to any server.
We implement industry-standard security practices in any server-side infrastructure we operate.
7. Data Deletion
You are in complete control of your data:
Deleting the QUALIA app from your device permanently destroys all clinical data stored locally.
Individual journal entries can be deleted from within the app.
The "Burn the Pages" feature in the Shadow Journal permanently destroys the entry with no recovery possible.

8. Children's Privacy (COPPA)
QUALIA is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately at privacy@archetypeorigininc.com and we will take steps to delete such information.
9. Third-Party Services
QUALIA integrates with the following third-party services, each governed by their own privacy policies:
Apple App Store / Google Play Store — subscription management and payment processing
Expo Application Services — app distribution and over-the-air updates (no clinical data transmitted)
We do not sell, rent, trade, or otherwise share your personal data with any third party for marketing or advertising purposes. Ever.
10. International Users
QUALIA's local-first architecture means your clinical data remains on your physical device regardless of your geographic location. For non-clinical data, we comply with applicable data protection regulations including GDPR (EU), CCPA (California), and PIPEDA (Canada).
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through in-app notifications. Continued use of QUALIA after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
